Who We Are
For over 50 years Camp Wassatoga has been a favorite location for youth building lasting memories in the great outdoors. In the 1960s, 36-acres on the west end of Lake Sara was dedicated to be used as a Girl Scout camp and over the years thousands of girls spend their weekends exploring and having fun at the camp. In 2020, the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois decided to close the camp and return the property to the Effingham Water Authority, which opened the door for Camp Wassatoga entering a new phase of its life. On January 1, 2021, Friends of Camp Wassatoga, a newly formed non-profit corporation, signed a lease to run the camp as a youth camp available to all area youth organizations.
What We Do
Camp Wassatoga is a great outdoor setting for camping, hiking, canoeing, campfires, volleyball, and so much more for area youth organizations.
