Volunteer: ECHS VolunteersHave you wanted to make an impact on animals' lives but aren’t sure how? We have so many ways to volunteer your time and talent at our shelter! Whether you want to work with animals, clean, do laundry, help at events, drive animals to vet appointments, mowing, take care of some outdoor landscape, you name it, we could use your help!
One way is Cat Care. There is 1 Cat Shift per day and it is approximately 2 hours long (depending on how many cats are in the building) starting at 7:30-8am. Cat Care is very basic and consists of, cleaning their cages, dishes, giving them clean bowls & new food & water, clean out litter boxes, give medicine if needed, & socialize with them! We would love to take in more cats, but until we get more volunteers, we are not able to do so. We welcome all volunteers, but you have to be at least 16 years of age to volunteer by yourself! We have many families that come out together to volunteer & the cats absolutely love it!
Another way is Dog Care. There are 3 Dog Shifts per day and the times vary for each shift. The first shift is AM Shift. This can approximately be 2 hours long & also starts at 7:30-8am. Dog Shift consists of cleaning their indoor kennels, and the Dog Room, walking each dog, dishes, feeding them breakfast & giving them new water, giving medicine if needed, & socializing with them! The second shift is PM Shift. PM Shift can approximately be 1.5 hours and starts at 3pm. This shift includes cleaning up any potential messes, walking the dogs, afternoon meals and water, and of course socializing! The last shift is Tuck In. Tuck in is approximately 1-1.5 hours and is around 8:30-9pm. Tuck In is very basic and cleans up any messes and takes them out to their kennels to do their business and brings them back in to get ready for bed.
You have to be 16 years old to volunteer without an adult for dogs also, but we love when families volunteer together & the dogs do too! The best part is, you will never do any Dog/Cat Care shift alone! We will pair you with someone and it’s a great way to spend time with friends & family, meet new people & animals! The schedule is sent out almost daily & you do not have to have a set time/date. If there is a help needed spot & that works for you, all you have to do is send an email & we will get you on the schedule.
If you aren’t sure if that’s what you want to do, we need help with other things also! Clean, do laundry, help at events, drive animals to vet appointments, mowing, take care of some outdoor landscape, we could definitely use your help! We appreciate any & all help! If you are interested in volunteering, you can fill out an application at http://www.effinghamcountyhumanesociety.org! We couldn’t do this without your help & support!
