SAFE Direct Volunteer

Description

Direct volunteers interact with survivors and their families. In order to become a direct volunteer, you must complete our sexual assault crisis volunteer training, which is held several times a year. This training can be completed either in person or virtually. Direct volunteers will be required to complete a background check, and will be assessed following training to ensure that they are ready to be a SAFE volunteer.

We realize that many volunteers are interested in helping because they are survivors. A survivor who has not been healed themselves may risk being retraumatized while working with other survivors. This assessment is intended to ensure that the volunteer is able to do the work while protecting their own mental health and giving the best care to other survivors. If after training, you are not ready to be a direct volunteer, this is not necessarily permanent, and there are many other ways to help.

We welcome volunteers of any race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. All direct volunteers must be over 18 years of age and complete an application and training process.
